Assistant Library Officer (Cataloguing and Preservation)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in original and copy cataloguing of library materials in accordance with international standards and in-house guidelines, and update bibliographic and other records in the Alma Library System
  • Maintain authority control for bibliographical records
  • Assist in collecting cataloguing statistics and compiling reports
  • Carry out end-processing tasks for library materials
  • Perform counter and shift duties on a regular basis, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Requirements

  • A recognized university degree or above
  • Cataloguing experience, preferably in an academic library setting
  • Knowledge of latest cataloguing rules and standards, such as Resource Description & Access, MARC21, Library of Congress Subject Headings and Library of Congress Classification will be an advantage
  • A good command of both written and verbal English and Chinese
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Work experience of integrated library system, preferably the Alma / Primo systems, will be an advantage
  • Candidates with less / more experience will also be considered for appointment at the relevant rank.
