Role requirements
The Library seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and collaborative leader to serve as Associate University Librarian (AUL). Reporting to the University Librarian, the AUL will play a pivotal role in shaping the library's strategic direction, leading library-wide initiatives, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
He / She will oversee multiple library functions through direct supervision of section heads. The role will actively lead or participate in committees and taskforces within the Library, across university offices, and in cross-institutional collaborations. In the absence of the University Librarian, the AUL may assume overall responsibility for the Library. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a progressive academic library dedicated to supporting the research, teaching, and learning needs of the HKUST community.
Person specification
The ideal candidate will hold a university degree along with an MLS or equivalent qualification, and possess extensive experience in academic libraries, including leadership roles and progressive managerial responsibility.
The position demands a visionary leader with the energy and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic environment, strong interpersonal and partnership-building skills, proven project management capabilities, and deep knowledge of core aspects of modern academic libraries, such as digital scholarship, learning space design, and the evolving role of libraries in enhancing student success and research impact.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, housing, medical and dental benefits will be provided where applicable. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of the contract.
