The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.
You will be responsible for :
- providing comprehensive design and project management support to the Curatorial and Programming Department, focusing on both short-term and long-term exhibition planning and execution;
- leading the concept development and space planning and graphic package for exhibitions, ensuring optimal use of space and alignment with thematic goals.
- Ensuring that all design outcomes meet high aesthetic standards, delivering visually compelling and engaging experiences for visitors;
- managing project budgets, oversee installation processes, and coordinate with external vendors to ensure successful execution of exhibitions;
- offering guidance to junior designers and collaborate with artists, institutions, and vendors to deliver high-quality exhibition projects;
- ensuring all design projects comply with museum standards, including schedules, budgets, and contractual obligations, while overseeing the exhibition fabrication process;
- knowledge of multimedia is a plus, allowing for the enhancement of exhibition experiences through diverse design elements;
- following through the procurement process of exhibition design related goods and services from sourcing, procuring, routing, tracking to invoicing;
- performing other duties as assigned by supervisor when deemed necessary
You should :
possess a recognised university degree in interior design (or 3D design equivalent), museum exhibition design, graphic design or equivalent;have a minimum of 10 years of experience managing sizable exhibitions, preferably within a museum or gallery environment;have strong management and leadership skills with the ability to work with tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks within an ever-changing environment as well as experience in supervising subordinates / staff;be familiar with government submission procedures, including procurement and tender stages and experience in identifying potential risk and time implication during a project’s life cycle;have knowledge of local statutory and building related legislations / codes;be proficiency in using computer design software such as AutoCAD, Sketchup, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign; andhave proficient oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in English and ChineseCandidate with less experience and qualifications will be considered as Designer position.
