The Department of History (https://www.ln.edu.hk/history/) invites applications for the position of Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of history specializing in Asia in global contexts. The Department has existing strength in Chinese history, Hong Kong history, public history, and global history, along with various subfields such as media, gender, animal, and environmental studies.

General Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in History or a closely related field. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and teaching excellence, with an outstanding track record of scholarly publications in internationally leading peer-reviewed journals and major scholarly presses, as well as extensive experience in teaching and course development. The ability to contribute to the Department s strategic areas global Asia, public history, or/and digital history is essential. Experience in digital humanities will be considered an advantage. The appointee is expected to submit applications for RGC grants, other local/overseas competitive grants and/or fellowship schemes.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointments with possibility of consideration for substantiation. Appointment with substantiation will be considered for the highly qualified candidate.
