Urban Water Systems Research and Development group (UWS-RD) is an interdisciplinary research group developing time reversal and imaging techniques to establish the next generation of urban water systems which are better designed, operated and managed. We are located at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (). But we also established a startup company in partnership with HKUST for which this position will be attached to.

Our team aims to develop a “Distributed data acquisition and control system for pipeline health monitoring in water supply network”. The technology developed spans from pipeline hydraulics to machine learning and optimization. But its implementation requires the development of a WebApp or SCADA system to manage all actions and executions.

Therefore, we are looking for a motivated and talented Research Assistant to join our dynamic group, who will be playing a vital role in our new project, performing a duty of developing and designing a software solution with the feasibility that controls and operates the pipeline health monitoring system.

Joining our team, you will be inserted in a diverse environment, where students, researchers and engineers are working together to develop innovative technologies to assure water resources sustainability. Also, you will have many opportunities to attend Continuing Professional Development modules (including seminars, conferences, short courses, workshops).

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering. Applicants with lower qualification may also be considered. Local graduate from Hong Kong and those graduated from top 100 Universities are highly encouraged to apply.

Applicants are expected to be skilled in programming and design including Object-Oriented design and have knowledge in Web-based development using JavaScript and HTML. Database expertise with Oracle and SQL. They shall also be experienced with the management, analysis, and visualization of statistical data, and familiar with languages such as C / C++, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Microsoft Visual Basic / J++, and VBScript. Excellent spoken and written English with the ability to effectively and respectfully engage in all level communication is required. The ideal candidate should be practical in resolving technical issues and able to respond positively and adapt to changing priorities to meet deadlines.(Duration : 1 – 2 years)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract with duration of 2 years.
