Professor Bertram Emil SHI is leading a research project titled “” funded by the Research Grants Council of the University Grants Committee.The project aims to improve older individuals’ mental and physical care by developing human-centric frontier artificial intelligence and robotics technology, which will empower both the elderly themselves and their carers to manage health and address frailty.The project team consists of faculties from HKUST, CUHK and HKU and five research thrusts listed below : (1) Human-centric benchmarking; (2) Trustworthy generative AI; (3) Robotics and embodied AI; (4) Sustainability; and (5) Human robot interaction.
The appointee will be part of the project engineering team, which will mainly focus on integrating component technologies developed by research thrusts into the robotic prototypes to be tested with stakeholders (e.g., the elderly, care workers and family members).The project engineering team is expected to communicate not only with the research thrust teams, but also stakeholders, in defining the specifications for these prototypes as well as their realization.The team will also assist in the preparation of project deliverables, including reports, academic journal and conference papers, as well as in the organization of conferences, summits, seminars and workshops.
Requirements for Associate Research Engineer :
Applicants should have a master’s degree in electronic and computer engineering, computer science, information engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field, with 3 years’ post-qualification experience in the R&D field and research project. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in carrying out research projects; have strong expertise in artificial intelligence, robotics technology and engineering; and have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua).
Requirements for Assistant Research Engineer :
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in electronic and computer engineering, computer science, information engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field, with 1 year’s post-qualification experience in the R&D field and research project. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in carrying out research projects; have strong expertise in artificial intelligence, robotics technology and engineering; and have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua).
