Manulife Investment Management – Hong Kong (MIM-HK) is the Regional Investment Operations (RIO) in Asia and serves as the hub for Investment Operations in other Asian territories (including Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan and China).

The position reports to the Team lead within Investment Operations and is primarily responsible for the below :

Responsibilities

The Manager, Investment Operations will be one of the core team members to provide subject matter expertise and support to our daily trade management processes. Responsibilities include :

  • Oversight of trade management and support, settlement, reconciliation, corporate actions, pricing and valuations across MPF, UCITS, Cayman fund, retail fund, pension fund, institutional mandate and general accounts.
  • Support post trade processing and ensure effective escalation of issues for all post trade processes.
  • Monitor corporate action & corporate event in a timely manner and follow-up with business units / custodian when required
  • Assist with the setup of new broker and trading enablement for new fund launches, both internal and external
  • Develop and maintain procedures and controls within investment operations to ensure consistent high-quality services and support to the front office, clients, and other business units.
  • Work with regional and country operations teams to promote best practices and standardization across the Asia region and globally where applicable.
  • Assist in providing training or knowledge sharing for offshore support team to support our daily operations and oversight the outsourced tasks.
  • Project work includes new fund launch, market change, continuous improving and automation of the department’s processes and documentation
  • Support MIS reporting, internal or external audit on trade management functions whenever it is necessary
  • Manage the relationship with fund managers, custodian banks, brokers, auditors, and internal / external counterparties to monitor the quality of services and ensure market standard practices are in place.
  • Collaborate with peers and various key stakeholders including but not limited to regional and country investment operations teams, Front Office, Product, Client Portfolio Management, Client Advisory, Institutional Sales, Risk and Compliance teams.
  • Knowledge of cash management and fund accounting with understanding of downstream impact to portfolios valuations in both internal and external systems will be a plus.
  • With experience or knowledge in supporting private investments will be a plus, such as private equities and private debt.
  • Undertake ad hoc assignments or special business projects as assigned.

  • What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 8+ years’ experience across investment operations; with at least 5 years’ direct experience working in a Middle Office Operations environment.
  • Experience gained in asset manager with knowledge of Middle Office / Investment Operations’ policies and procedures, including but not limited to trade management oversight, trade support, corporate actions, pricing & valuations, and fund operations.
  • Experience with oversight of shared service operations and external providers such as fund administrators, custodians.
  • Familiar with mutual fund structure, cross asset classes, including equities, FX, fixed income, derivatives, Fund of Fund etc.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point) and Business systems (Bloomberg AIM, OMGEO CTM, ALERT, Simcorp) experience is required.
  • Excellent communication skills in Cantonese / English / Mandarin. Ability to understand, negotiate and influence business stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues where the resolution is not readily apparent.
