About the Role

This role will provide management and the local Boards with an objective, independent assessment of the internal control systems through planning and execution of audit assignments. The individual will ensure beneficial, accurate and relevant assessment to management by providing appropriate business-oriented recommendations. He / she will be responsible for the delivery of the overall audit plan, reporting to the Boards, committees and management, and supervising and developing the Corporate Audit team.

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • The key responsibilities of the Head of Corporate Audit are leading internal audit projects for Group Office functions and “Group entities” including AIA Reinsurance and Technology Shared Services. The role is also expected to coordinate with Investment Audit CoE in Singapore to implement investment audits at Group-level (including shared services and CoEs reporting to Group Investments.)
  • Apply a collaborative orientation to working with the AIMHK Board and management, truly seeking to contribute to the investment and support function processes as well as to the Investment Governance Framework
  • Advise Group first line and second-line stakeholders on risk, controls, and process improvement opportunities, and assist the GIA Regional Directors and the Group Head of Internal Audit in enhancing audit workflows and knowledge sharing within GIA
  • Identify key risks at the local level for each entity considering the relevant strategies and business environment
  • Develop the annual audit plan considering the key risks identified at the Group Level, inputs from local management and the Audit Committee and present it to the Board / Audit Committee for approval before implementing the plan with audit reports and remedial action plans
  • Coordinate and monitor audits being performed by regulators, external auditors (for special projects, if any), other entities’ auditors and other groups providing assurance
  • Direct a team to deliver the departmental goals and develop the team through mentoring, training and providing timely feedback to staff
  • Drive or involve in the implementation of new processes and systems of the company to provide an independent view to management of the quality and effectiveness of the projects

Minimum Job Requirements :

  • Minimum fifteen years of internal / external audit experience of which twelve years of experience in the insurance, financial or a related industry. Relevant experiences such as consultancy, project management, software development, investment in the insurance industry are a plus
  • Experienced in defining the audit plan of a similar internal audit function (preferably at a Group Office capacity) based on a sound understanding of business objectives, the market circumstances, and internal control best practices across multiple geographical locations
  • Understand the risks inherent in key insurance processes and Group-wide project rollouts, able to identify key risks in the process and to develop the business plan accordingly
  • Demonstrate experience in collaboration and partnership with Group-level stakeholders and local business unit management in delivering group-wide initiatives on internal controls
  • A relevant professional qualification such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor or equivalent
  • Thorough understanding of life insurance operations, industry practices and legislative / regulatory requirements
  • Strong leadership, project management and people developments skills
  • Knowledge with audit tools and other software such as TeamMate, ACL (data analytic tools), MS Office
  • intermediate knowledge on IT
  • Good command of both oral and written English
  • Less experienced candidate will be considered as Associate Director
