The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is inviting applications for the positions of Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Assistant to conduct research in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

For the position of Postdoctoral Fellow, applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline;

ii) relevant research experience, preferably in machine learning and artificial intelligence; (iii) proficiency in research skills, including expertise in machine learning techniques such as conventional machine learning, deep learning, etc.

as well as strong development skills in at least one of the following programming languages : Python, C++ / Java, C.; (iv) a strong publication record demonstrating research achievements;

v) excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; and (vi) the ability to work independently. Experience in conducting research on transfer learning, neuro-symbolic learning, and / or drafting research proposals will be an advantage.

For the position of Research Assistant, applicants should have (i) a BSc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline;

ii) relevant research experience, preferably in machine learning and artificial intelligence; (iii) strong programming skills in at least one of the following programming languages : Python, C++ / Java, C.

and (iv) a solid background in mathematics.

The appointee(s) will work at a Jockey Club STEM Laboratory under the guidance of Prof. Sinno Jialin PAN to conduct research on neuro-symbolic learning and transfer learning.

  • Duties include (a) developing innovative AI algorithms and architectures that integrate data-driven machine learning methods with symbolic reasoning;
  • b) designing novel transfer learning frameworks based on newly developed hybrid AI algorithms to enable the transferability of AI models across different environments or tasks;

and (c) creating versatile platforms for deploying newly developed AI algorithms and architectures, contributing to the construction of various AI ecosystems.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
