The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager (Quality Control) to lead the quality assurance efforts within the University’s capital works projects. This key role will be instrumental in upholding quality standards and ensuring the successful execution of construction projects on the university campus.

Reporting to team members within CDO, the appointee will need to demonstrate experience in the successful delivery of new buildings within Hong Kong, and have an understanding of Hong Kong’s relevant statutory processes.

The major duties include :

• Leading and managing resident site staff, and conducting on-site inspections to ensure construction meets the quality and specifications.
• Establishing the quality requirements of the projects through mock-ups and quality control installations at the initial stage of the project.
• Monitoring and reporting on the progress of construction projects, highlighting any deviations from the approved drawings.
• Reviewing and commenting on contractor’s work schedules, materials, and method statements to ensure compliance with the project requirements.
• Coordinating with project managers and contractors to resolve any construction-related issues promptly.
• Maintaining detailed records of construction activities, including daily reports, progress photos, etc.
• Assisting in conducting pre-inspections and snagging exercises to identify and rectify defects before project handover.
• Providing regular updates to the project team on construction progress, challenges, and any potential risks.
• Providing suggestions for works needed to create campus improvement and best practices and working collaboratively with the team to ensure that the projects execution align with the University’s strategic goals and objectives.

Applicants should possess a degree in construction-related fields with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in Architecture / Engineering / Construction and Project Management. They should be a member of a recognized professional organization, such as the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. The ideal candidate should be open to innovative ideas.Excellent leadership and communication skills, strong business acumen and management capability, stakeholder management and engagement skills, and a good command of both written and spoken English are required. Knowledge of Chinese is preferred. Experience in liaising with relevant government agencies and statutory bodies as well as a proven track record of delivering sustainable design in capital projects utilizing creative solutions are desirable. (Duration : 1 year project basis)
