The Assistant Manager, Database, is responsible for overseeing and maintaining an organization's database systems, with a strong emphasis on management skills and utilizing hands-on database experience. This role entails managing, designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient and secure database systems that align with the organization's requirements. The Assistant Manager will supervise the database support team and collaborate with other IT professionals to ensure seamless integration with various systems and applications.

You will be responsible for :

managing and monitoring the outsourcing database support team, including contract negotiations, performance evaluation, and ensuring service level agreements (SLAs), compliance with authority's regulations and industry standards are met;

overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and support activities for the authority's database infrastructure. This includes monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with the database support team for timely resolution;

assisting in the development of the roadmap plan for the infrastructure database strategy, including system availability, performance, automation, and security, by evaluating the current infrastructure, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending solutions to meet business needs;

staying informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices related to cloud-based database management. Making recommendations for the adoption of new cloud technologies and process improvements; and

lead the preparation of tender documents, including the technical domains of the database, server and storage infrastructure, ensuring they are comprehensive, accurate, and aligned with the authority's requirements and objectives.

You should :

possess a recognised university degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field;

have at least 5 years of IT working experience, with hands-on database administration experience on Microsoft SQL Server;

have strong experience in managing a sizeable IT infrastructure;

familiarity with the database backup, recovery, and security best practices;

have experience with databases, such as Oracle, AWS RDS and Azure SQL Database, is a plus;

possess knowledge of document-based databases, such as MongoDB, Couchbase, DynamoDB, and CosmoDB, is a plus;

possess a professional qualification in the Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate is a must;

possess a professional qualification in the Azure Administrator Associate or ITIL foundation certification is a plus;  and

have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
