Professor Yike GUO is leading two scientific research teams, namely HKUST Machine Creativity Lab (MACRE Lab) and Hong Kong Generative AI Center (HKGAI). Funded by the University Grants Committee, MACRE Lab is working on a project titled “Building Platform Technologies for Symbiotic Creativity in Hong Kong”, which is one of the largest interdisciplinary projects on humanities, arts and technology in China. HKGAI, which is supported by InnoHK under the Innovation and Technology Commission, is the largest collaborative scientific research project in local history, involving six of the top 100 QS universities in Hong Kong. These will be an important step to develop Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology center. We are now hiring various research-related positions to join the teams. By joining the teams, the appointee will have the chance to work with Professor Yike GUO, Professor Song GUO, professors from overseas universities and industrial R&D professionals from DeepMind, Huawei, IBM, Ping An and JD Research Institutes.

i) Requirements for Specialization in System Configuration and Management Applicants should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, with more than 3 years of experience in managing clusters of 20 or more Nvidia GPU servers (the appointee will manage hundreds of Nvidia GPU servers); proficiency in GPU cluster configuration, scheduling, and software management (the appointee will manage hundreds of AI R&D users); familiarity with principles, configuration optimization, and troubleshooting of intra-machine and inter-machine network communication of Nvidia GPU clusters, such as NVLink and InfiniBand switches; and proficiency in the configuration and management of high-speed storage dedicated to GPU clusters, such as DDN storage.
ii) Requirements for Specialization in Data and Engineering
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics or a related field. The ideal candidate should be passionate about handling data and engineering, with proficiency in designing and implementing data crawlers and related frameworks, and in distributed databases such as MongoDB (the appointee will be required to handle dozens of TB of data). They should have a deep understanding of and extensive experience in multimodal data cleaning and preprocessing, including deduplication, formatting, conversion, standardization, etc., and also in data security and confidentiality, including access control, authentication, data encryption, disaster recovery, etc.
iii) Requirements for Specialization in AI Development
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics or a related field. They should be proficient in AI system / LLM training processes with experience in system optimization, including algorithm optimization, hardware acceleration, distributed computing, cache optimization, etc.; AI system testing, such as unit testing, integration testing, performance testing, security testing, etc.; and AI system integration, including API design and implementation, web services, message queues, etc. R&D experience in relevant large models will be an advantage.
iv) Requirements for Specialization in Software Development
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, with proficiency in scripting or programming languages, including but not limited to Python, PyTorch, etc., software front-end and back-end development and mainstream development framework, and software testing techniques and tools, design and implementation of test plans, test cases, and test reports. They should demonstrate the capability to complete assigned software development tasks independently and conduct system design based on specific requirements and specifications, including architecture design, module design, interface design, etc. Experience in full-stack development will be an advantage.
Duration : 1 – 2 years)
Fringe benefits such as medical benefits and paid leave will be provided where applicable. A gratuity will also be payable upon successful completion of contract with a duration of 2 years or above, where applicable.
