Responsibilities
- Design and architect HPC systems, including selecting and configuring hardware components such as processors, memory, storage and interconnects to meet the specific performance requirements of various applications
- Install, configure and maintain HPC hardware and software components, including operating systems, HPC middleware, job schedulers and resource managers
- Manage and monitor HPC system performance and health
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as software updates, patch management and hardware repairs or replacements
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues
- Develop, manage and maintain the data centre infrastructure, including advanced cooling systems, connectivity, cabling, security control and compliance
- Analyse and optimise the performance of HPC systems and applications by tuning system parameters, optimizing code and implementing efficient parallel processing techniques
- Assist researchers, engineers and students in effectively using HPC resources
- Provide user training, documentation and support to help users optimise their applications for HPC environments
- Implement and manage security measures to protect HPC systems and data, including access control, data encryption and monitoring for security vulnerabilities
- May be required to work in shifts and irregular hours
- Perform any other duties as requested by supervisor(s)
Requirements
A recognized Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Engineering or related disciplinesAt least 5 years of working experience in IT, with at least 3 years of relevant experience in HPC environmentDeep understanding of various HPC architectures, including clusters, supercomputers and grid computingHands-on experience managing, configuring, and maintaining HPC systems clusters or supercomputersSolid experience in HPC data centre management, including efficient cooling systems (e.g. liquid cooling and immersion cooling), low latency network, fault tolerance and redundancy design (e.g. redundant power supplies and backup generators), energy efficiency and cabling systemStrong knowledge of parallel computing models (e.g. MPI, OpenMP and CUDA) and expertise in programming languages commonly used in HPC such as C, C++, Fortran and scripting languages (e.g. Python and Bash)A solid understanding of high performance computing systems, scalable and parallel architectures, and proficiency with Linux / Unix operating systemsFamiliarity with high-performance storage solutions and file systems (e.g. Lustre, GPFS and NFS)A good understanding of high-speed networking technologies such as InfiniBand, Ethernet and RoCESolid experience with job scheduling and workload management systems like Slurm, PBS, Open OnDemand or HTCondorA good understanding of performance tuning, profiling and optimization techniquesExperience with software development tools and practices including version control systems (e.g. Git)Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex technical issues in HPC environmentsAbility to manage multiple projects and tasks, prioritize effectively and meet deadlinesAbility to work well in a team environment and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of researchers and studentsExperience with implementing and managing security policies and practices in an HPC environmentExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCandidates with less / more experience will be considered for appointment at a relevant rank.
