The Chung Group of Exposomics () at the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) strives to develop and apply integrative methods to understand how the exposome can interact with the genome and affect the development of chronic diseases. The Group has members with diverse backgrounds focusing on areas ranging from environmental health data science and epidemiology to molecular biology and metabolomics. The group also has extensive international connections with leading universities and investigators in exposomics to maximise the impact of their work. We invite outstanding candidates to contribute to our research in decoding the exposome.

The Group is seeking a talented full-time member (Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Associate / Research Assistant) who is interested in chemical exposomics and determined to conduct foundational work with high-resolution mass spectrometry. The project focuses on developing new and optimising existing analytical methods to “sequence” the exposome using a range of environmental and biological samples. Candidates without a PhD degree could have an opportunity to pursue a PhD degree at CUHK while conducting the project.

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree or a MPhil / MS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Health, or related disciplines; (ii) experience in analysing chemicals in various environmental media and / or biological fluids using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) ; (iii) strong interest in chemical exposomics; (iv) effective communication, organisational, and time management skills; (v) excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English; (vi) strong technical expertise ; and (vii) good knowledge of using affinity-based methods for sample preparation. Skills in data science and computation with R are desirable but not required. Experience in conducting suspected screening analysis (SSA) or untargeted metabolomics with Orbitrap LC-MS would be an advantage. On-the-job training will be provided. Those with a PhD degree are also welcome to apply for the Junior Research Fellow Scheme ().

The appointee will be responsible for (a) performing mass spectrometry-based development and optimization of biochemical analysis methods, e.g., affinity-based enrichment, activity metabolomics; (b) collaborating with the team and external investigators on projects fulfilling the exposome vision of the group; (c) conducting literature reviews; (d) communicating and reporting of research progress to the team leader; (e) managing and maintaining daily activities in the laboratory; and (f) leading and producing high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed articles and presentations for academic and non-academic audiences.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
